There is no better proof that women in law enforcement thrive in the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. Our own Sheriff Kelly A. Martinez began her career here as a Deputy in 1985, and many other women do well in various other roles throughout the department.

If you have the will and determination, the Sheriff’s Office will prepare you for this career. Once hired you will spend several months at the academy (as a full time county employee) where you will receive top quality training by field experts, qualified instructors and seasoned deputies. In addition to criminal and civil law you will be taught defensive tactics, arrest and control, firearms, and emergency vehicle operations. We do this so on day one at a jail facility or in a patrol car, you have the necessary training to succeed, be safe and advance your career.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Office also recognizes the importance of personal and family life. As a full time San Diego County Employee, you will have a variety of benefit packages to choose from. From highly competitive rates for medical, dental, vision care for you and your family to Health Saving Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts for healthcare and daycare. Deputies also receive holiday pay premium, tuition and travel reimbursement and quickly accrue sick time, vacation time and compensative time. From the day you are hired, you will build towards retirement in the San Diego County’s Pension System and you will qualify for several deferred compensation programs to bolster your life after your career. The San Diego Sheriff’s Office does this to help insure a high quality of life for you and your family.
