Detentions Nursing is different from traditional hospital and clinic nursing in that patient care is administered in a detentions facility. Patients who might not normally get the care they need outside of a facility due to their circumstances can be seen to and helped, and health care workers in this field get to use a much wider range of skills — medical, surgical, emergency, psychiatric, etc.
The Medical Services Division of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office understands the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, and because of this we can provide quality care in our detention facilities. We have three job classifications that are always open in nursing:
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
- Sheriff's Detentions Nurse
Registered Nurse (RN)
- Sheriff's Certified Nurse Assistant
We also have two job classifications that are always open in mental health.
Other job classifications in the Sheriff's Office Medical Services open for application when opportunities arise, so check back often or follow us on social media to see the announcements.
