Premier Law Enforcement Agency 

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office is the primary and largest law enforcement agency in the county and one of the largest sheriff's departments in the U.S., with over 4,700 employees and a service area over 4,500 square miles extending to a 60-mile international border. We provide detention facilities (jails), court services, and specialized regional services (such as air support, search and rescue, SWAT, etc.) to all of the county and our contract cities.

We employ sworn deputies both in Law Enforcement and in Detentions/Court Services, from Deputy Sheriffs to Investigators, to Helicopter Pilots and Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT).

We employ civilians as Emergency Services Dispatchers, Nurses, Mental Health Clinicians, IT Specialists, Crime Lab Specialists and Investigators, and more.

We also have volunteers from all walks of life and a wide age-range, from the high school aged Deputy Explorers to the retirement aged Senior Volunteers and the Reserves.
